Amy Carmichael: Sometimes when we read the words of those who have
been more than conquerors, we feel almost despondent. But they won through step by step, by little bits of wills,
little denials of self, little inward victories, by faithfulness in very little
things. There is no sudden triumph to spiritual maturity.
So then, just as you
received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in
him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with
thankfulness. Colossians 2:6, 7
1. Remember how you came
to Christ.
So then, just as you
received Christ Jesus as Lord…
Colossians 2:6
You must be born
again.
John
3:7
Christ Jesus came into the
world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason I was
shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his
unlimited patience as an example for those who would believe on him and receive
eternal life.
1 Timothy 1:15, 16
Salvation is found in no
one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must
be saved.
Acts
4:12
For he has rescued us from
the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves,
in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
Colossians
1:13, 14
2. Relate all of life to
Christ.
Continue to live in him,
rooted and built up in him…
Colossians 2:6, 7
We must stop acting like
children. We must not let deceitful people trick us by their false teachings,
which are like winds that toss us around from place to place. Ephesians 4:14 Contemporary English Version
He is like a tree planted
by streams of water, which yields it fruit in season and whose leaf does not
wither. Whatever he does prospers.
Psalm
1:3
For no one can lay any
foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 3:11
For in Christ all the
fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and you have been given fullness in
Christ, who is the head over every power and authority.
Colossians
2:9, 10
Lloyd Ogilvie: All we need to know about God, He has made known in
Christ. Christ is the full & final revelation of God & man as He was
intended to be.
Let your roots grown down
in Him and draw up nourishment from Him. See that you go on growing in the
Lord, and become strong and vigorous in the truth.
Colossians 2:7 Living Bible
3. Respond to life in
Christ.
Strengthened in the faith
as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. Colossians
2:7
See to it that no one takes
you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human
tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ.
Colossians
2:8
Giving thanks to the
Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the
kingdom of light. Colossians
1:12
Now just as you have
trusted Christ to save you, trust Him too for each day’s problems; live in
vital union with Him.
