God Wants You to Think

We live day by day in our thought world. Jesus tells us to love God with our minds.

Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind ... Mark 12:30

1. Recognize the effect your faith has on your thought world.

Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind ... Romans 12:1, 2

Do not let the age in which you live force you into its scheme of thinking and behaving ... Romans 12:1, 2 James Montgomery Boice

We take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5

The worldly mind is wrapped around self.

Their mind is set on earthly things. Philippians 3:19

The Christian mind should view the world through eyes of faith.

Set your mind on things above, not on earthly things. Colossians 3:2

Ask: Where is God in this? What is God saying in this? What would God have me do now?

We have the mind of Christ. 1 Corinthians 2:16

Let the mind of the Master be the Master of your mind.

2. Regain control of your thought world.

How long must I wrestle with my thoughts ... Psalm 13:2

Be made new in the attitude of your minds. Ephesians 4:23

His delight is in the law of the Lord, & on his law he meditates day & night. Psalm 1:2

W. Clement Stone: Keep your mind off the things you don't want by keeping it on the things you do want.

3 Steps to address your thoughts:

  1. Detect: Admit your thoughts exist.

    The wisdom of the prudent is to give thought to their ways ... Proverbs 14:8

  2. Decide: Are the thoughts good or bad?

    May the words of my mouth & the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, my Rock & my Redeemer. Psalm 19:14

  3. Determine: Replace the bad thoughts with good thoughts.

    Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think on such things. Philippians 4:8

E. Stanley Jones: If you don't make up your mind, then your unmade mind will unmake you. Any dallying will be the Trojan horse that will get on the inside and open the gates to the enemy. God can do anything for the man who has made up his mind; he can do little or nothing for the double-minded.

3. Reflect on the deeper issues of life.

Prepare your minds for action. 1 Peter 1:13

  • Use your mind as you study God's Word.

    I will meditate on your principles continually. 119:117 New Living Translation

    Prayer – He opened their minds so they could understand the scripture. Luke 24:45

  • Use your mind in your Christian growth.

    We have not stopped praying for you asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. Colossians 1:9

  • Use your mind to explore our world.

    I devoted myself to study and to explore by wisdom all that is done under heaven. Ecclesiastes 1:13
